Timothée Chalamet has officially entered his “Imperial Phase.” Just weeks after turning 30, the New York-born actor has proven that his box office draw isn’t just tied to massive franchises like Dune or Wonka—it extends to the world of prestige indie cinema as well.
His latest project, Marty Supreme, has just made history for A24, becoming the studio’s highest-grossing film in the United States.
A New Record for A24
Directed by Joshua Safdie, Marty Supreme has officially crossed the $80 million mark at the North American box office. In doing so, it has unseated the previous record-holder, Everything Everywhere All At Once, which earned $77 million domestically and went on to win seven Oscars in 2023.
While the film still trails Everything Everywhere All At Once ($142M) and Civil War ($127M) in terms of worldwide totals, industry experts believe it’s only a matter of time. With a current global haul of $94.8 million (Source: Box Office Mojo) and several major markets (including Spain) yet to open, Marty Supreme is on track to become a global juggernaut for the indie powerhouse.
The Successor to DiCaprio?
Critics and industry analysts are increasingly comparing Chalamet’s trajectory to that of a young Leonardo DiCaprio. Much like DiCaprio in the early 2000s, Chalamet has managed to balance massive blockbuster success with serious, awards-contending dramas.
Between 2023 and 2024, Chalamet broke a 45-year-old record previously held by John Travolta by starring in two massive hits—Wonka ($634M) and Dune: Part Two ($714M)—within an eight-month span. Now, with Marty Supreme, he is proving he can carry a mid-budget sports drama to record-breaking heights.
Oscar Momentum Building

The timing of this box office success couldn’t be better. Chalamet is currently the frontrunner in the 2026 awards race.
- Recent Wins: He recently took home the Critics’ Choice Award for Best Actor.
- The Competition: After being nominated in 2025 for his portrayal of Bob Dylan in A Complete Unknown, many believe Marty Supreme is the performance that will finally net him the Best Actor statuette.
What is ‘Marty Supreme’ About?
A blend of frenetic thriller and sports drama, the film tells the story of Marty Reisman (played by Chalamet), a hustler with boundless ambition determined to become a world-class ping-pong champion.
The film features a star-studded supporting cast, including:
- Gwyneth Paltrow: Returning to the screen after a long hiatus.
- Tyler, the Creator: Making his highly anticipated acting debut.
- Fran Drescher: The beloved Nanny star in a rare dramatic turn.
As the film prepares for its European rollout later this month, the “Chalamet Wave” shows no signs of slowing down.
