Heading into the 2026 Pongal season, Sivakarthikeyan’s Parasakthi seemed destined for greatness. With the last-minute postponement of its main competitor, Jana Nayagan, due to censorship issues, the path was cleared for a solo blockbuster run.
However, as the first-week numbers come in, it’s clear that the “Siva Magic” hasn’t quite translated into the massive figures trade circles were predicting. Despite having the biggest holiday window of the year all to itself, the film is facing a steep uphill battle.
The First Week Numbers: A Reality Check
While not an outright disaster, the collections are a far cry from the ₹200 Cr gross targets set by the makers during the pre-release buzz.
- Tamil Nadu Gross: ~₹43 Crore
- Worldwide Gross: ~₹70 Crore
For a film that was expected to replicate the success of Amaran, reaching just ₹70 Crore in its first full week—during a festival season with no competition—is a significant underperformance.
The “Jana Nayagan” Factor
The biggest missed opportunity here is the “Free Run” advantage. Usually, Pongal is a crowded space with 2-3 major releases. Because Jana Nayagan was pulled at the 11th hour, Parasakthi had a near-monopoly on screens across Tamil Nadu.
Unfortunately, mixed word-of-mouth (WOM) dampened the excitement. While the family audience showed up in moderate numbers, the “Repeat Value” that usually drives festive blockbusters is currently missing.
The Road Ahead: Can It Reach ₹125 Crore?
Initially, trade experts believed ₹200 Crore was a given. Now, even the ₹125 Crore lifetime gross looks like a difficult target.
- The Problem: The second week usually sees a natural drop-off after the holiday period ends.
- The Hope: If the film can hold steady in B and C centers (the smaller towns) over the coming weekend, it might limp toward a respectable finish.
